Software that I’ve found useful so far:

  • Subversion - popular free version control software
  • XAMPP - easy to configure development environment containing Apache, Perl, PHP and MySQL.
  • TortoiseSVN - Windows shell extension for Subversion
  • 1ClickSVNSetup - installs Subversion and TortoiseSVN, and configures an intial project
  • Cygwin - UNIX shell for Windows
  • Simian - finds duplicate code in files
  • PHPMyAdmin
